Chicago Astronomical Society Meeting
January 9, 2015 at the Adler Planetarium

Prior to our keynote speaker's presentation, Dave Fuller of "Eyes on the Sky"
showed us "what's up" in January's night sky.  After the meeting he braved
the cold outside to show us Comet Lovejoy through his telescope.

Michelle Nichols, Master Educator at the Adler Planetarium
made a wonderful presentation "Comets: Our Solar System's Icy Messengers."
Michelle gave us a peek at some historic comets, showed us what we
(currently) know about them, and gave us a look ahead to Comet Lovejoy (C2014 Q2),
2015's first likely naked-eye comet.

At the end of the meeting CAS President Audrey Fischer presented a thank-you gift of
"Comet" pies.  Everyone had a taste, posed for a group picture, and then went outside
to look through Dave Fuller's telescope at Comet Lovejoy (yes, we could see it).
