The October 2015 meeting of
the
Chicago Astronomical Society
was held at the Adler Planetarium.
Following a pizza social provided by
President Audrey Fischer,
Dave Fuller of "Eyes
on the Sky," highlighted this month's
upcoming events in the night sky.
Then our featured presenter, Dr. Peter
Vandervoort,
talked about "Chicago's
Forgotten Observatories," which
included the CAS's Dearborn Telescope and the
Kenwood Physical Observatory of George Ellery Hale.
Dr.Vandervoort serves as a
Trustee of the Adler Planetarium
and as co-chair, Adler Collections Committee at the
Adler Planetarium Friends of the Museum Collection -
The Webster Institute. He is also Professor Emeritus, Department
of Astronomy and Astrophysics at the University of Chicago.
At the end of the meeting Dr.
Vandervoort was presented
with a special commemorative cake by President Audrey Fischer,
and a small raffle was held.
